The concept for the mural is a welcoming of fall. Hence the warm pallet of red, orange and yellow background colors. The colors are moving in waves to illustrate our Santa Ana Winds. To me crows are a great representation of autumn. They don’t migrate. They stay local, similar to the patrons of the Zaferia business district. The birds in flight also add movement along parklet drawing your eye along the 160 foot length to Melanie’s beautifully painted figure and beyond.

2. Beach Ball- Long Beach is a beach city with 11 different beaches.

3. Giant Donut- has welcomed visitors entering Long Beach for over 50 years and is located near 7th and PCH.

4. Villa Riviera- considered Long Beach’s most elegant landmark is located at Alamitos and Ocean.

5. Queen Mary- Long Beach’s most famous icon is located in Long Beach Harbor.

6 . The Pyramid- is a indoor multi-purpose arena located on the campus of Long Beach State University.

7. Artist Pallet- Long Beach is home to world-class Artists, Museums and Entertainment.

8. Sea Lion- The Aquarium of the Pacific is Southern California’s largest aquarium located in Rainbow Harbor.

In 2019, I was one of the Artist for Metro’s “Art Portrait Series: More People Than You Know” where the Metro commissioned me for a portrait. This rotating exhibition features portraits of patrons created by artists connected to the neighborhoods served by the A Line. The Artwork is displayed on digital screens in all stations along the corridor and featured on limited edition TAP cards.

This body of work was created for the restaurant chain Lucille’s BBQ. As they opened more restaurants they needed more paintings. Folk Art is that it tends to be small in scale so the Lucille’s hired me to add larger paintings of blues musicians to add as focal pieces on the walls. Each painting is 32 x 48 inches or larger. Painted in oil on wood panels.

This has been my most profitable line of art. Clients usually give me a concept of what they would like to see reflected in the glasses or they send me 4 x 6 inch photograph in landscape format for me to crop and fit in the glasses.

The concept of this painting is to illustrate children at play using my client’s son and daughter as the models. The black and white images that are collaged in the background represent a youthfulness from the past.

My client was looking for a nontraditional portrait of her daughters with a Southern California vibe. So I came up with this artwork hoping to invoke sisterhood, youthfulness and as the popular song made famous by the Ramones goes “We are out here having fun in the warm California sun”. It took 4 month to finish piece.
